We can run but can we hide?

Our editor was gleefully extolling the wonders of modern technology the other day. What’s this got to do with us we thought? Well it turns out quite a lot. At our favourite dog show Crufts news broke of the world’s most advanced dog collar. Pioneered by Sat Nav experts Retrieva, the level of interest was such that their tracking and anti-theft collar made virtually every UK national newspaper, including the front page of the Times.

We advised our editor to inform our friendly pet detectives. In the meantime, we are left wondering if things will ever be the same again…we can always run but will we be able to hide?

Fantastic Feisty Forrest

ForrestFeisty Forrest first caught our editor’s eye at the Frosty Fall Funday where she enjoyed his demonstration of outright JRT determination. It was then that she learned of his latest life challenge - a battle with Lymphoma - after being rescued from a lifetime of abuse.

Not one to shy away from challenges - this is one JRTForrest that is taking Xtreme to a whole new level. He just loves to compete at dock diving events. And he was not going to let a little thing like chemo stand in the way of playing his usual star role!

Forrest

Not surprisingly he is one of the crowd favourites and steals the show all the time. Last summer he placed in the top 4 pro finals at two weekends at the Western Fair in London then did it again in Pickering.. To place in the top 4 he had to be jumping between 19-20 feet.. His owners predict he’s likely to break his old record of 20 feet 6 inches soon. That was just with Dock Dogs…

He finished his 2007 year in Michigan with Ultimate Air Dogs in which he went all the way to the Master’s finals at the two events he competed.

True to JRT form he is jumping with the big dogs ! And his handler is only 13 years old.

Who says Jacks can’t fly say his owners! And so say we

We’re just loving the skateboarding, surfin JRT videos our editor has just added to our very own JRT Tube. Check them out!

Anyone for Crochet?

Planet JunePlanet June

Our editor was checking out the JRT stars on Flickr the other day when she found this little gem.
This super cute amigurumi crochet design is the creation of June Gilbank. You can get this pattern and ones for other breeds at Planet June. You will also find a mine of information on many different crafts. To our dismay our editor does not crochet - we will be pointing  her in the direction of the detailed how tos.
Maybe this cutie will provide the necessary inspiration.

Racing with the Jack Russell Club of South Western Ontario

Jack Russell

The breeze was brisk and the air was chilly and plenty of hot chocolate was on tap for an afternoon of racing organized by those wonderful folks at the Jack Russell Club of South Western Ontario. Die hard enthusiasts, our editor among them, and JRTs bundled up to enjoy the final JRT event of the season.

Jack Russell

Well worth braving the cold we say as she once again comes back with lots of photos.

Snow was on the ground and it was almost JRTs in camouflage at times. It only seems like yesterday when our sun loving editor was basking in the sunshine at Ajax……roll on next spring!

This Season’s Breed of Choice

We hear fashion bible Vogue is saying the fashion pack has declared the Jack Russell terrier as its breed of choice for this season. Quite rightly our friends at the Times say this is bad news for us as we are not really bred for the catwalk. We could not agree more.

We have to hand it to author Jane Shilling who threatens to make a citizen’s arrest if she sees a Jack Russell looking miserable in a handbag this season. As far as we are concerned there is no if about it.

If this isn’t bad enough we are apparently the successor to those itzy-bitzy dogs like shih-tzus, chihuahuas and pugs ‘on whom the fashionista’s fancy previously fell’. This had us reeling and we just had to chip in with our say on this matter.

We are real dogs. Never forget that our purpose in life is to do a real job. We have a life.

And don’t even think about carrying us around in a handbag. If your owner ever has the audacity to do so we suggest you use your highly developed ripping and tearing skills and trash it. Of course, you could always call Jane and ask her to make a citizen’s arrest.

JRT Fashion File

Pirates has just been rescued from a shelter in Quebec and her new owner has welcomed her with a fabulous new winter coat. Our editor just knew we would love it..definitely the JRT must have item for the winter, we think.

and how long before there’s a waiting list we wonder….

No, NO and NO!!!

Our editor was sitting back enjoying the lure coarsing at Albion Hills when a gathering around a certain JRT got her attention. After making his catch Feisty Forest showed her the book on JRT determination.

NoNoNoNo

and No

No

He did finally let go and our editor was curious to find out more. We hear he has needed every ounce of his feisty character for almost all his life. His current owners very much appreciate his fine character and say he has highly developed hunting instincts. They rescued him from the abuse that he only knew for the first five years of his life. Now we are sad to hear he has to fight another battle - having found wonderful caring owners he was diagnosed with Lymphoma just last week. But will this slow him down ? A resounding

NO

from his owner and our editor saw it with her own eyes.

Our HUGE JRT hugs go out to this amazing guy!

Frosty Funday Albion Hills November 3

frostyfunday The Frosty Funday kept our editor busy last Saturday. Frosty it was and but that did not cool our editor’s enthusiasm. There’s lots of pictures to show with the usual cast of great JRT characters. She’s even included a few cameo features with a model photo shoot and a monumental tug of war!
cameraman

It seems word is getting around on all the fun. Cameras from The Weather Network showed up. That may explain our editor’s greater than usual interest in watching weather forecasts these days. So far she reports no luck but you never know - if someone has a clip please send it along! In the meantime you can enjoy the stills of the event here!

Could we be getting a visit from the Yaparazzi next?

JRT Angel

AngelNow here’s a JRT who lives up to her name. 9-month old JRT,  Angel came to the rescue of a nine year old girl in Palmetto, Florida. Her father said Angel, never seemed like much of a guard dog — at least until Friday.

We think someone forget to tell him that we are big dogs in small packages.
